WACO, Texas - Anna Breyfogle was named the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week for matches from Sept. 29-Oct. 5, the league office announced on Monday. The weekly honor is the fourth of Breyfogle's career, as the junior earned Big 12 Player of the Week honors on three occasions during the 2007 season.

Breyfogle tallied 10 kills and 10 blocks in a 3-0 win over Colorado last Wednesday. It marked the junior's first 10 block match of the season and the fifth of her career. Breyfogle also recorded her second double-double of the season after tallying 11 kills and 13 digs in the season-opener against SMU.

Breyfogle also recorded 10 kills on 13 errorless swings for a .769 hitting percentage. Her net play helped the Bears hold CU to a -.083 hitting percentage for the match, marking the first time since 2005 that a Big 12 team has hit for a negative percentage in a conference match. It also marks the first time since 1996 that a Big 12 team hit negative in all three sets in a conference match.

Breyfogle leads the Big 12 and ranks second in the nation with a 1.70 blocks per game average. She also holds a commanding 1.95 blocks per set average in conference matches.

In addition, Baylor received 11 votes in the latest CSTV/AVCA Top 25 poll released on Monday afternoon. Last week Baylor received 10 votes in the poll, making its first appearance in the receiving votes section since the 2006 season. Baylor was last ranked in the AVCA Top 25 in 2001 when the Bears earned a No. 17 ranking on Sept. 17.

The Bears return to action on Wednesday night as Baylor travels to Austin, Texas to take on the third-ranked Longhorns. The first serve from Gregory Gym is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. with a live audio webcast on BaylorBears.com.
