After a 31-28 homecoming loss to Missouri, the Baylor football team will now head 100 south to take on the Texas Longhorns . Kickoff is set for 11 a.m., Saturday, at Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium in Austin, Texas.
Here are head coach Art Briles' thoughts on the Bears' loss to Missouri and Saturday's game against the Longhorns:
On the positives from Saturday's game...
"I think there are a lot of positives. I think we are becoming a better football team, without a doubt. Our guys are fighting and believing, so that is what we have to keep doing. Another positive was the energy the crowd brought to us.... Everything was good except for the final outcome."
On becoming a better football team...
"I think we are a more polished football team. We are still making some mistakes, but we are playing with enough confidence that we think we can overcome them, we feel like we are going to overcome them. And that's a good feeling."
On the cornerback play...
"The more experience, the more comfortable you feel sometimes. They are still battling hard, trying to make a play to help our team. That is all they are really doing, just like everybody else.... Those guys are doing a good job."
On the frustrating nature of Baylor's losses...
"Yeah, no doubt, but what you can't do is you can't let it beat you up. And we are not going to let it. We are going to understand that we got a good football team and we are becoming better each week, and we are going to keep fighting. We can't change what has happened, but we will work hard to change what is ahead."
On the resiliency of the players...
"I just think we are getting better. Now we have a tough little stretch before us, but we are a better football team then we were three weeks ago."
On the play of Derek Epperson...
"He has a lively leg.... Overall he has been very consistent. And he has been a good weapon for us.... He is a guy who will be out here on January 2 working on his own. He is always working to get better. There are not a lot of secrets to success: hard work, effort, and attitude and he has all three of them.... He has done a good job for us this year overall."
On the ability of Robert Griffin to bounce back...
"He is a warrior just like the rest of us. You put your heart, body, and soul into it, lay it on the line and get ready to do it again. Like I said we can't change what has happened, but we can try to get ready for what is ahead."
On the balance of Saturday's offensive attack...
"You know I haven't even looked at the stats.... From an offensive standpoint when we are clicking, that is the way we like to do it. We don't want anybody to be able to lock in on one or two of our guys. We felt pretty active yesterday. It is all about tempo and execution."
