KAHUKU, O`ahu, Hawai`i - The Baylor men's golf team will close out the fall portion of its 2008-09 schedule at the 8th annual Turtle Bay Intercollegiate beginning Monday, Nov. 10. The tournament will continue through Wednesday, Nov. 12, with one round of 18 holes played each day.
In addition to the Bears, the tournament's 19-team field includes Cal Poly, College of Charleston, Hawai`i, Long Beach State, Louisiana-Monroe, Mississippi State, New Mexico State, Ohio State, Oregon State, Pepperdine, Point Loma Nazarene, Saint Mary's, San Diego State, Santa Clara, Texas, UC Irvine, UNLV and UT Arlington.
Teams will play 18 holes each day and compete on two courses at picturesque Turtle Bay Resort located on the North Shore of O'ahu. Rounds one and three will be played on the par-72, 6,535-yard George Fazio Course. Round two will be played on the par-72, 7,218-yard Palmer Course.
In their last outing, the Bears finished fifth at the Baylor Intercollegiate in Dallas after a furious final-round comeback. Freshman Joakim Mikkelsen (Drammen, Norway) and senior Bill Allcorn (Abilene, Texas) posted top 10 finishes for the Bears. Mikkelsen continues to lead the Bears with a 72.00 stroke average, while posting the team's lowest score vs. par (0.82).
Allcorn ranks third on the team in both stroke average (72.64) and score vs. par (1.45).
For the fourth consecutive tournament, Baylor will go with the starting five of Mikkelsen, Allcorn, Colton Williams (Jacksboro, Texas), Cody Paladino (Kensington, Conn.) and Lorenzo Scotto (Pordenone, Italy). Williams, who is second on the team with a 72.18 stroke average, is the only Bear to have every round count this season (11-of-11).
