Equestrian Hosts Two Events

WACO, Texas - Following consecutive road competitions at Auburn and Georgia, the Baylor women's equestrian team (4-9) returns to action on Friday, Feb. 22 with a 1 p.m. match against Kansas State followed by a Saturday, Feb. 23 10 a.m. competition against Fresno State. Both matches will be held at the Willis Family Equestrian Center.
The Bears dropped a 13-7 decision at Georgia and suffered a 10-7 setback at Auburn. Against Georgia, Baylor riders Madelyn Mooney and Nicole McCoy swept Western MVP honors, while McCoy and Katie Buss took home MVP honors against Auburn on the Western side. Also at Auburn, Heather Healy was the Hunt Seat MVP winner.
Friday's match marks the second meeting of the season between Baylor and Kansas State, the Wildcats defeated the Bears 14-6 on October 12. In addition to varsity competition, the show will feature riders performing in junior varsity competition in Fences, Flat, Reining and Horsemanship.
Friday's competition format will feature a series of head-to-head match ups. The team accumulating the most head-to-head victories will win the overall match. In the event of a tie, the victor will be determined by total points. In addition, there will be an individual award for the most valuable player in each event. Also, exhibition rides will be contested in all four event but will not count in the team scoring.
Competing for Baylor in Hunter Seat competition will be Nicole Brown, Mary Smitson, Heather Healy, Beth Banister and Kendra Vicary in Equitation Over Fences, while Brown, Smitson, Healy, Shelby White and Wilson compete in Equitation on the Flat. Western riders include Katie Buss, Madelyn Mooney, Valtie Riddle, Nicole McCoy and Kim Marlowe in Reining and Allison Orosz, Lindsay Douglas, McCoy, Maggie Griffin and Ashleigh Carlson in Horsemanship.
Both matches are open to the public, no admission is charged.
