SPRING, Texas - The Baylor men's golf team shot 592 on Monday, five shots out of first place after the first day of competition at the All-American Intercollegiate at the Tradition Course at Cypresswood Country Club.
Arkansas-Little Rock leads the tournament at 587, while Baylor shot 296 in each of the first two rounds to finish the first day at 592. Lamar and Houston are tied for third at 593 after 36 holes.
"Obviously we would like to have the lead going into the final round," said head coach Greg Priest. "We weren't very consistent today. We played well in spurts, but didn't close the way we should have."
Jeff Gerlich leads the way for Baylor, tied for eighth at 3-over par. Brian Whittle of UALR paces the field at 6-under par. Bill Allcorn is tied for 12th overall at 4-over par.
"This is a pretty tough golf course," said Priest. "The lies are tough to read, but we just didn't execute today. But I still like our chances tomorrow. Any of our guys can put up a low score tomorrow and put us right back in it. It would be nice for everyone to click in the same round; we still haven't done that yet."
Colton Williams and Cody Paladino are tied for 24th overall at 6-over par. Williams bounced back from a 6-over par 78 to finish the second round at even-par 72.
Wes Williams sits at 9-over par in a tie for 36th overall, while Weldon Martin, competing this week as an individual, is also tied for 36th at 9-over par.
The Bears will finish play tomorrow morning in the third round of the All-American Intercollegiate.
