That proved to be all the offense four Baylor pitchers needed. Mackey (1-0) worked into the sixth inning, scattering three hits and three walks with four strikeouts for the win. Tim Matthews got a bases-loaded strikeout in the sixth and then faced the minimum in the seventh. Mace Thurman allowed one unearned on one hit with two strikeouts. Reed Woytek finished the game with a five-pitch scoreless ninth.
In the fifth, Dickerson walked, moved to second on a balk, advanced to third on a groundout and scored on another balk. In the sixth, Beamer Weems had an RBI double and later scored on a Hornung single as the Bears pushed their lead to 6-0.
Baylor scored four runs without a hit in the bottom of the eighth. Miller walked and later scored on Chris Slater's bases-loaded walk. Andrew Cooley, who earlier reached on a walk, scored on a wild pitch. Baylor's final two runs of the inning scored on a two-out error.
Weems and Ben Booker collected two hits each. Miller was 1-for-3 with two walks and two runs scored. Every Baylor starter reached safely at least once.
