Baylor has made two adjustments to its 2008 football schedule, moving road games against Connecticut and Texas Tech to accommodate requests make by the Big 12 Conference's television partners, Director of Athletics Ian McCaw announced Tuesday.
The Bears' game at Connecticut, originally scheduled to be played Sept. 20 in East Hartford, Conn., has been moved to Friday, Sept. 19, so that it may be televised nationally on ESPN2 with kickoff set for 7 p.m. (CDT). It will mark Baylor's second-ever appearance on ESPN2 and first since its 1995 game at Miami, Fla.
"We are grateful to our television partners at ABC/ESPN for affording Baylor a Friday night nationally televised game in an exclusive window," McCaw said. "This will afford Coach Briles and our program tremendous exposure as we begin a new era of Baylor football."
Baylor's season-ending game at Texas Tech, originally scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 22, has been moved to Saturday, Nov. 29, so that the Oklahoma-Texas Tech game can be moved from Nov. 15 to Nov. 22. That adjustment will give the Bears an open date on Nov. 22.
The Bears return to a seven-game home schedule in 2008 and will play five of their first six games under first-year coach Art Briles in the friendly confines of Floyd Casey Stadium. Wake Forest (Aug. 30), Northwestern State (Sept. 6), Washington State (Sept. 13), Oklahoma (Oct. 4), Iowa State (Oct. 11), Missouri (Nov. 1) and Texas A&M (Nov. 15) will visit Waco this fall while the Bears will have road games at UConn (Sept. 19), Oklahoma State (Oct. 18), Nebraska (Oct. 25), Texas (Nov. 8) and Texas Tech (Nov. 29).
Parents' Weekend activities will coincide with Baylor's Oct. 11 home game against Iowa State, while Missouri will be the Bears' Homecoming opponent on Nov. 1.
All-told, Baylor will play eight teams which earned bowl invitations a year ago--Wake Forest (Meineke Car Care Bowl champion), UConn (Meineke Car Care Bowl), Oklahoma (Tostitos Fiesta Bowl), Oklahoma State (Insight Bowl champion), Missouri (AT&T Cotton Bowl champion), Texas (Pacific Life Holiday Bowl champion), Texas A&M (Valero Alamo Bowl) and Texas Tech (Gator Bowl champion).
Kickoff times for all games except the UConn game will be established 6 to 12 days prior to the game as television selections are announced.
