Women's Tennis Shuts Out No. 75 Wisconsin

MADISON, Wis. - Sophomore Lenka Broosova improved her singles record to 20-3 this season as the Baylor women's tennis team shut out No. 75 Wisconsin, 4-0, in consolation action at the 2008 ITA National Women's Team Indoor Championship in Madison, Wis.





Less than 12 hours after dropping a hard-fought match against top-ranked Stanford, Baylor (3-1) returned to Nielsen Tennis Stadium to take on 75th-ranked Wisconsin. The Bears showed little to no signs of fatigue and easily defeated the hosting Badgers.





Broosova and senior Zuzana Zemenova, ranked No. 4 nationally in doubles, posted an 8-0 victory over Elizabeth Carpenter and Emese Kardhordo and then watched on as 50th-ranked Jana Bielikova and Karoline Filipiak clinched the doubles point with an 8-6 win over Chelsea Nusslock and Jessica Seyferth.





Broosova and Zemenova improved to 16-3 while the win for Bielikova and Filipiak put them back above the .500 mark with a 4-3 record.





In singles action, No. 18 Broosova put the Bears up 2-0 with a 6-0, 6-2 victory over Kardhordo. The win improved Broosova to 20-3 in singles action the season, marking the second time in as many seasons that the sophomore has record 20 or more wins. In her freshman campaign, Broosova finished the season on a 16-match win streak with a 37-8 record.





"I'm really impressed with the leadership that Lenka is showing for our team on the court," said head coach Joey Scrivano. "She's really playing hard and taking ownership of this team."





No. 47 Jana Bielikova and sophomore Zuzana Chmelarova clinched the match for the Bears, earning straight-set wins over Morgan Tuttle and Erin Jobe, respectively.





Along the match had already been officially won for the Bears, Baylor and Wisconsin played out the remaining points.





Fifteenth-ranked Zemenova improved to 9-2 win a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Carpenter, while Jelena Stanivuk and No. 87 Karolina Filipiak added wins to their records as well.





Stanivuk defeated Jessica Seyferth 6-3, 6-1 at No. 3 singles and Filipiak handed Chelsea Nusslock a 6-2, 6-1 loss.





Baylor will return to action Saturday against No. 19 Notre Dame. The match is scheduled to being at 9:00 a.m. from Nielsen Tennis Stadium. The action can be followed live at BaylorBears.com or ITAtennis.com.

— Zuzana Zemenova and Lenka Broosova are the only members of the 2007-08 Baylor women's tennis team to face Notre Dame. The two squared off against then-No. 9 Brook Buck and Kelcy Tefft in the finals of the ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championship in Columbus, Ohio. Notre Dame's Buck and Tefft won 6-3, 6-1.
