this week in baylor women's tennis
The fifth-ranked Baylor women's tennis team will play host to No. 48 Virginia on Friday night at 5 p.m. at the Baylor Tennis Center. The Lady Bears are coming off a 4-3 win over sixth-ranked Georgia on Tuesday night, Baylor's 12th-straight victory.

A team making waves on the women's side is Baylor: two weeks ago, the Bears jumped to No. 4 in the rankings, their highest national ranking in program history. The Bears are also on several streaks, including an 11-match win streak against nationally ranked opponents, and a 37-match win streak at home. The Bears' last home loss came on March 19, 2005 to Vanderbilt. The 37-match home win streak includes victories over 21 nationally ranked opponents.
broosova ends win streak
After starting the spring dual-match season with 14-straight wins, sophomore Lenka Broosova lost her first match of the year against No. 96 Yvette Hyndman of Georgia on Tuesday night. Broosova is now 14-1 on the season.

Friday's match between Baylor and Virginia will be the first-ever meeting between the two schools.
The Cavaliers are sporting a 6-5 record, including a 2-1 mark in the Atlantic Coast Conference. The Cavaliers knocked off their highest-ranked opponent on Sunday, defeating No. 52 North Carolina State 7-0. Individually, Virginia has one ranked singles player, No. 124 Amanda Rales.

Jana Bielikova won a second-set tie breaker at number-five singles as fifth-ranked Baylor defeated sixth-ranked Georgia 4-3 on Tuesday night at the Baylor Tennis Center. Baylor took an early lead winning two of three doubles matches. Taylor Ormond gave the Lady Bears a two-point advantage with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Ueshima at number-two singles. Zuzana Zemenova topped Kelley Hyndman at flight one singles in straight sets, 6-1, 6-2, to put Baylor up 3-0. Bielikova sealed the victory for the Lady Bears at number-five singles in a second-set tiebreaker over Ellis, 6-4, 7-6 (4).

The most recent Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings list the Baylor women's tennis team at No. 5. The ranking, released Tuesday (March 11) drops the Lady Bears one spot. For the two previous weeks, Baylor had been ranked No. 4, the highest team ranking in program history. Previously the Bears had earned a No. 5 ranking for four consecutive weeks during the 2006 season.
Individually, Baylor has five nationally ranked singles players and two nationally ranked doubles teams. No. 8 Lenka Broosova leads the way for the Bears with a 28-3 record entering the week. Broosova is followed by No. 19 Taylor Ormond, No. 25 Zuzana Zemenova, No. 79 Jana Bielikova and No. 123 Jelena Stanivuk.
Broosova and Zemenova have also teamed together as the nation's second-ranked doubles duo while Ormond and Stanivuk have been tabbed No. 41.
The ITA will next release its team and individual rankings on March 18.
weekly honors
Taylor Ormond earned the Big 12 Player of the Week honors on March 9. Ormond posted a 2-0 singles and 2-0 doubles record as Baylor opened conference play with road wins at Iowa State (6-1) and previously undefeated No. 68 Nebraska (7-0). The nation's 19th-ranked singles player won in straight sets 6-2, 6-2 against Iowa State's Kara Hickey after moving up to the No. 2 singles position.
Against Nebraska she defeated Jana Albers 6-3, 6-3 at No. 3 singles. Ormond paired with Jelena Stanivuk as the No. 41 ranked duo topped Erin Karonis and Chrissy Derouin (Iowa State) and Maria Rin and Wivica Swarting of Nebraska. This marks the second-straight week a Baylor player earned the weekly award, as Zuzana Zemenova won last week (March 3).
