The match lasted just over an hour, but that was all the time the fourth-ranked Baylor women's tennis team needed as they improved to 11-1 Sunday with a 4-0 victory over No. 19 Wake Forest (3-4) at the Baylor Tennis Center.
Eighteenth ranked sophomore Lenka Broosova put the Bears up 1-0 with her No. 3 singles victory against Christian Tara. After shutting out Tara in the first set, 6-0, Broosova wrapped up the match with a second-set 6-2 win.
Broosova improved to 28-3 with the victory and extended her current win streak to 11 matches; it was also her 75th career singles victory as she now boasts a career record of 75-11 (.871).
Within minutes following Broosova's victory, 37th-ranked sophomore Jana Bielikova and 24th-ranked senior Zuzana Zemenova put Baylor up by three.
Bielikova (19-7) won her first set over Sierra Poske, 6-2, and jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the second set before shutting the door with a 6-1 second-set victory.
Zemenova finished two serves later with a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Sasha Kulikova at No. 1 singles.
Prior to the match both head coaches agreed to play a "1st to 4" tournament style match, meaning once one team reached four points the match would be finished.
Up 3-0, the Bears needed just one more point and Baylor was up one set in each.
Freshman Karolina Filipiak provided the match-ending point on court six by handing Katarina Reveche a 6-2, 6-1 loss.
At the match's conclusion, No. 22 Taylor Ormond was leading Alexandra Hirsch 6-4, 2-2 and freshman Jelena Stanivuk was in front of Emilee Malvehy, 6-2, 3-5.
"Our players did a great job of adjusting to the conditions," said head coach Joey Scrivano. "The wind was definitely a big factor in today's match, but our girls fought through. I told them before the game that Wake Forest was our top competition today, but that the wind was a close second."
Baylor (11-1), the three-time regular season defending champions, opens Big 12 play Friday and Saturday on the road against Iowa State (3:00 p.m.) and Nebraska (10:30 a.m.), respectively.
