No. 18 Softball Travels To Oklahoma State

The No. 18 Baylor softball team (18-10 overall, 1-3 Big 12) will travel to Oklahoma State (15-17 overall, 0-2 Big 12) beginning on Saturday at 12 p.m. and wrapping up the weekend at 12 p.m. on Sunday in Stillwater, Okla.
Saturday's game was originally scheduled for 2 p.m., but was moved to avoid a conflict with the Cowgirl Basketball team's Sweet 16 appearance on ESPN at 1:30 p.m.
The Lady Bears are coming off an 8-0 loss at No. 7 Texas A&M on Wednesday, and have lost three-straight for the first time since 2006.
Oklahoma State enters the weekend after losing of five of its last six. The Cowgirls split a pair of games on Wednesday, defeating Tulsa (4-2) and falling to Arkansas (2-0).
Oklahoma State leads the all-time series 22-14, including a 11-5 mark in Stillwater. The Lady Bears have won five straight over OSU, winning the last two in Stillwater. Texas State 5, #18 Baylor 2
The Baylor Lady Bears fell behind 3-0 and could not recover, falling to Texas State (21-11 overall) 5-2 at Getterman Stadium on Tuesday.
The Bobcats jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the second, as Ryan Kos hit a two out double to right field with the bases loaded to put Texas State on top.
Baylor threatened in the bottom of the second as Courtney Oberg led off with a single to left and was pinch ran for by Morgan Craig. Jordan Daniels stepped up and bunted her way on as the throw went to second but was not in time to get Craig. With two on and no out, KJ Freeland popped up a bunt to third for an out, but Daniels and Craig were caught off first and second, and Texas State turned the triple play.
The Lady Bears got on the board in the third as Kirsten Shortridge hit a fly ball to left with two out and Weldon on second. The left fielder dropped the ball, allowing Weldon to score and bring Baylor to within two.
Down 4-1 in the fifth after a Bobcat home run, Oberg laced a single passed the second baseman, scoring Nicole Wesley and bringing the Lady Bears' deficit back to two.
The Bobcats added another insurance run in the seventh, and Baylor went down in order in the bottom half of the inning.
Shaina Brock (1-1) took the loss after throwing 2.1 innings, giving up four hits, three runs, two walks and three strikeouts. Jenny Isham and Brittany Turner each came on in relief, giving up four hits and two runs between them.

#7 Texas A&M 8, #18 Baylor 0 (6)
The No. 18 Baylor Lady Bears collected just one hit and fell to No. 7 Texas A&M (32-6, 4-0 Big 12) 8-0 in six innings at Getterman Stadium on Wednesday.
Texas A&M had seven batters in-a-row reach base in the second inning, collecting six runs on five hits, including one crossing on a wild pitch, to take a 6-0 lead.
Baylor's lone hit came in the fourth, a single up the middle by Courtney Oberg with two outs, but she was stranded when Jordan Daniels followed with a groundout to second.
The Aggies scored their seventh in the fifth, as Holly Ridley tripled down the left field line and came around to score after the throw got passed third and allowed her to continue home.
A&M's final run came in the sixth, after an error at third allowed the runner from third to cross the plate.
Kirsten Shortridge (4-3) picked up the loss, going 1.1, giving up five hits, six runs and three walks. Brittany Turner came on in relief, throwing 4.2 innings, allowing four hits, two runs, no earned and one strikeout.

Oklahoma State enters the weekend after losing of five of its last six. The Cowgirls split a pair of games on Wednesday, defeating Tulsa (4-2) and falling to Arkansas (2-0).
The Cowgirls are led by Mariah Gearhart, who is batting .340 with 17 RBI and 19 stolen bases. The power in the lineup comes from Kim Kaye, who has nine home runs and 25 RBI. As a team, OSU is batting .291 with 25 home runs.
In the circle, Anna Whiddon is 3-4 in 16 appearances with a 1.65 ERA in 68 innings of work, striking out 62. Amanda Crabtree leads the team with 18 appearances and a 7-9 mark. As a team, the Cowgirls have a 2.85 team ERA.

Baylor's three-game slide is the most games lost in a row since a three game losing streak that ran from May 3, 2006-May 10, 2006 with losses to Texas, Kansas and Nebraska.

Lady bears lead big 12 offense
Baylor's .337 team batting average leads the Big 12 by nearly .35 points, with Oklahoma State in second with a .304 average.
The Lady Bears have five of the top 20 individual batting averages in the Big 12, including the top four spots. Jordan Daniels (.433), Kirsten Shortridge (.427), KJ Freeland (.412) and Brette Reagan (.408) take up the top four spots, whileNicole Wesley (.365) is 13th.
No other conference foe has as many players in the top 20, as Iowa State and Oklahoma each have three.

Reagan Rips on Roadtrip
Junior Brette Reagan found the softball parks very friendly on the team's recent roadtrip to San Antonio and Florida. She hit .522 (15-for-27) with two home runs and eight RBI to help lead Baylor to a 5-3 mark.

freeland adjusting well
Freshman KJ Freeland needs no more time to adjust to collegiate pitching. The Tucson, Ariz., native is hitting .377 this season. She has 21 hits in 61 at-bats, with an on-base percentage of .397.

Stealing this much should be criminal
The 2008 Lady Bears are off to a hot start on the base paths, stealing 64 bases in their first 28 games. That mark is second in the conference behind Missouri, who has played 11 more games. Last season Baylor had 70 stolen bases through 28 games.
The Baylor team record for most stolen bases in a season is 155, set by the 2005 team, which had 75 stolen bases in its first 28 games.
