Softball Comeback Sparks Day Three Sweep

CLEARWATER, Fla. -
The Baylor Lady Bears (16-4 overall) scored three runs in the top of the seventh to beat UIC, 7-6, then run-ruled Coastal Carolina, 10-0 on Saturday at the USF Under Armour Invitational.
UIC jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first on the starter, Shaina Brock.
Baylor answered with one in the second, as Meagan Weldon singled to score Jordan Daniels, who reached on a double.
Baylor took a brief lead in the top of the third, as Courtney Oberg singled with the bases loaded to score Shortridge, and Daniels followed with her second double, scoring Brette Reagan and Tiffany Wesley to make it 4-2.
The Flames scored three in the bottom of the inning and one more in the fourth to take a 6-4 lead.
Baylor bats remained quiet until the bottom of the seventh when Kirsten Shortridge and T. Wesley began the inning with a singles. After Shortridge stole third, Reagan singled to bring her in with no outs to make the margin one. With one away, Daniels singled to tie the game, and an error by the shortstop allowed the go-ahead run to score.
Jenny Isham, who came on in relief, pitched four scoreless innings, giving up one hit and striking out four in the win.
In the afternoon game, Baylor jumped out in front in the top of the first as Daniels led off with a home run to right field, her sixth of the season. Meagan Weldon singled and Alex Colyer doubled down the right field line to put runners at second and third, before a wild pitch on ball four to Kirsten Shortridge brought Weldon in to score for the 2-0 lead.
The Lady Bears continued to hit the long ball in the third as Reagan led off with a solo shot to center. With one out, Daniels doubled and was brought around as Nicole Wesley doubled to right center. After advancing to third on a wild pitch, N. Wesley scored on an illegal pitch to make the score 5-0.
The inning continued with a Weldon walk and Colyer doubling down the left field line for the second time. With two outs, Shortridge laced a double to left center, scoring Weldon and Colyer for a 7-0 lead.
Baylor added to the lead in the fourth with Oberg leading off with a walk. With one down, Nicole Wesley reached on an error by the first baseman, and with two down, Colyer powered her first home run of the year over the left field fence for the 10-0 lead.
Colyer finished the day 3-for-3 at the plate with two doubles, a home run and three RBI.
Isham (8-1) picked up her second win of the day after throwing five innings, giving up four hits, walking four and striking out three.
Baylor will wrap up play at the USF Under Armour Invitational on Sunday with an 8 a.m. CT game against Hofstra.
