LINCOLN, Neb. - Taylor Ormond and Jelena Stanivuk held on to win at number-two doubles, and Zuzana Zemenova won a third-set tiebreaker as the fourth-ranked Baylor women's tennis team blanked No. 68 Nebraska 7-0 on Saturday at the Nebraska Tennis Center.
The win moves Baylor to 13-1 on the season, 2-0 in the Big 12 Conference. Nebraska suffers its first loss of the season, dropping to 11-1 overall, 1-1 in conference play.
The Lady Bears struck early in doubles play as Zuzana Chmelerova and Carolina Filipiak defeated Amber Chandronnait and Stephanie Evans 8-4 at number-three doubles. After the second-ranked team of Lenka Broosova and Zemenova dropped its match 9-7 to Jana Albers and Imke Reimers 9-7 at number-one doubles, No. 41 Taylor Ormand and Jelena Stanivuk won their sixth straight match 9-7 over Maria Ring and Wiveca Swarting to claim the doubles point.
No. 123 Stanivuk got Baylor's second point with a 6-0, 6-2 win over Evans at flight four singles. Filipiak downed Chandronnait 6-3, 6-2 at number-five singles, and Chmelerova blasted Ring 6-2, 6-3 at number-six singles to secure the match for the Lady Bears.
No. 19 Ormand defeated Albers 6-3, 6-3 at flight three singles and eighth-ranked Broosova won her 14th-straight match, topping Swarting 6-4, 6-3 at number-two singles. No. 25 Zemenova took an early lead 6-2 in the first set, but dropped the second set to 91st-ranked Reimers in a tiebreaker 7-6 (4). Zemenova held on to win the third set 10-8 and secure the sweep for Baylor.
The win for Baylor is the 11th straight since dropping its lone match of the season to top-ranked Stanford. The Lady Bears return to action on Tuesday as Baylor plays host to third-ranked Georgia at 5 p.m. at the Baylor Tennis Center.
