With two outs and the game tied 2-2 in the bottom of the eighth, Craig Fritsch struck out Matt Vern for what should have been the third out of the inning. However, Vern reached first on a third-strike passed ball. Chris Ellington followed with an RBI double to center, plating Vern for the winning run.
Fritsch (1-2) was saddled with the tough-luck loss; he allowed two runs, both unearned, on four hits and a walk with seven strikeouts over 5.0 innings. Starter Mace Thurman yielded a run on two hits and two walks with two strikeouts over 3.0 innings in a no decision.
Andrew Cashner (4-1) got the win for TCU; he got the Horned Frogs out of a jam in the top of the eighth and held Baylor hitless with a walk and three strikeouts over 1.1 scoreless innings. Starter Seth Garrison held Baylor to one run on three hits and two walks with eight strikeouts over 6.2 innings.
TCU manufactured a run in the bottom of the first inning. Ben Carruthers was hit by a pitch to start the inning and moved to second on Bryan Kervin's infield single. After a double steal, Bryan Holaday plated Carruthers with an RBI groundout.
Baylor tied the game in the third. Landis Ware was hit by a pitch to leadoff the inning and later scored on Shaver Hansen's two-out RBI single. TCU recaptured the lead in the fourth; Holaday reached on a two-out error, and Steve Ellington followed with an RBI triple.
Ben Booker tied the game at 2-2 in the eighth with a pinch-hit home run on the inning's first pitch. It was Baylor's first pinch-hit home run since May 22, 2002, when Ross Bennett accomplished the feat at
Dickerson had two of Baylor's seven hits on the night.
Baylor returns to action Wednesday, hosting UTSA for a 6:30 p.m. CDT first pitch at Baylor Ballpark. The Bears send right-hander Wade Mackey (2-1, 4.74 ERA) to the mound. The Roadrunners counter with southpaw Kris Ruepke (1-2, 8.35 ERA).
