Hunter Seat To Ride for 5th in VENC

WACO, Texas - After defeating Kansas State on Friday evening, Baylor's hunter seat team will compete for fifth place on Saturday at the Baylor-hosted Varsity Equestrian National Championships (VENC) at the Heart O' Texas Fair complex. The Hunter Seat team's finish will be its best in school history after finishing eighth in 2006 and `07. The Bears' Nicole Brown will begin competition in the individual portion of the championships on Saturday at 8:30 a.m., she is the No. 1 seed in Equitation Over Fences.
The Western team didn't fare so well and was eliminated after losses to TCU (5-3) and Texas A&M (4-2).
The Hunter Seat team lost to third-seeded Georgia, 6-2, in first round bye competition. Heather Healy and Nicole Brown posted Baylor's two wins against the Bulldogs. Brown triumphed in Fences with a 165-162 win over Haylie Jayne and Healy triumphed over Jayne as well.
For the Western squad against TCU, who will ride for the championships on Saturday, Katrina Buss, Valtie Riddle and Madelyn Mooney all won their matches in Reining. In the match with the Aggies, Kim Marlowe scored for the Bears in Reining while Allison Orosz registered a victory in Horsemanship.
