The second-ranked Baylor women's tennis team won the doubles point and too the top five singles matches to defeat No. 70 Kansas 6-1 on Saturday afternoon at the First Serve Tennis Center.
The Lady Bears are now 16-2 on the season against nationally ranked opponents.
Baylor started out by winning the doubles point to take an early 1-0 lead. The second-ranked team of Zuzana Zemenova and Lenka Broosova defeated Elizaveta Avdeeva and Edina Horvath 8-4 on court one. Jana Bielikova and Zuzana Chmelarova secured the point for the Lady Bears with an 8-4 win at number three doubles over Maria Martinez and Magdalena Tokarczyk. The No. 57 team of Taylor Ormond and Jelena Stanivuk were upset on court two, 8-6, by Lauren Hommell and Kunigunda Dorn.
The Lady Bears got singles wins at the top five positions. No. 24 Zemenova downed Tokarczyk 6-3, 6-0 at number one singles, while No. 28 Ormond topped Avdeeva 6-2, 6-4 on court two. No. 13 Broosova defeated Horvath 6-1, 6-0 at flight three singles, and No. 81 Bielikova bested Dorn 6-2, 6-3 on court four.
Chmelarova downed Yuliana Svistun 6-4, 6-3 on court five, while the Jayhawks picked up their lone point on court six as Stephanie Smith defeated Natalie Holmes 6-3, 6-1 at number six singles.
Baylor returns to action on Sunday as the Lady Bears continue play in the state of Kansas, traveling to Manhattan to take on Kansas State at 12 noon.
