WACO, Texas -- Andrew Cashner struck out Aaron Miller with runners at first and second and two outs in the bottom of the ninth as TCU knocked off Baylor 4-3 in midweek action Tuesday night at Baylor Ballpark. The Bears (19-12) have lost three straight midweek games, all at home. TCU (20-12) has won six straight overall and four straight against Baylor.

The Bears trailed 4-1 entering the ninth. Landis Ware walked to start the inning before Cashner entered and got two quick outs. After Beamer Weems walked with two outs, a wild pitch put runners at second and third. Dustin Dickerson struck out swinging for what should have been the game's final out, but the third strike sailed to the backstop and Dickerson beat out Bryan Holaday's throw to first. Adam Hornung followed with a two-run single through the left side, but the Bears could get no closer.

Paul Gerrish (3-2) earned the victory in relief for the Horned Frogs, who have won six of their last seven against the Bears and their last two at Baylor Ballpark. Gerrish allowed one run on two hits and a walk with five strikeouts over 3.1 innings. Cashner recorded three strikeouts and earned his third save of the season. Starter Seth Garrison left after 4.2 innings; he allowed one run on three hits and five walks with one strikeout.

Baylor scored a run in the first inning but missed two chances to break the game open. Shaver Hansen led off with a triple down the line in right, and Weems followed with an RBI single through the right side. Dickerson walked to put runners at first and second with no outs, but Hornung bounced into a double play. Miller was hit by a pitch and Raynor Campbell walked to load the bases, but Ben Booker grounded out to end the inning.

That 1-0 lead held until the fifth when TCU scored three runs on three consecutive two-out hits and a Baylor error. Bryan Kervin and Clint Arnold singled, and Chris Ellington followed with a triple off the centerfield wall to score Kervin and Arnold. Baylor center fielder Raynor Campbell chased the ball down but could not pick it up cleanly, allowing Ellington to score. TCU added an unearned run in the sixth on a Weems error, a passed ball and a sacrifice fly.

Starter Tim Matthews (2-1) was saddled with the loss; he allowed three runs, two earned, on seven hits and a walk with four strikeouts over 5.0 innings.

The Bears had two hits on the first three pitches of the first inning but managed only four hits the rest of the way. Hornung had three of those four hits; Booker had a one-out double in the sixth but was stranded there.

Baylor returns to action Wednesday, hosting UT Arlington for a 6:30 p.m. CDT first pitch. Miller (0-0, 3.86 ERA) will make his first career start on the mound for the Bears. Right-hander Matthew Otteman (2-1, 3.60 ERA) is expected to start for UTA.

NOTES: Baylor leads the all-time series 133-105, including a 68-41 advantage in games played in Waco. The Bears are 14-17 against TCU under head coach Steve Smith. ... Baylor falls to 16-5 this season when the starting pitcher lasts at least 5.0 innings and 5-1 this year when wearing white. ... Baylor is now 8-5 in one-run games this season, losing five of their last six. ... Booker (six games), Hornung (six games) and Hansen (three games) all extended hitting streaks; Hornung's streak ties his career long. Dickerson (seven games) and Campbell (three games) both saw hitting streaks end.
