TULSA, Okla. -

Lenka Broosova and Zuzana Zemenova won their second round matches at the 2008 NCAA Women's Tennis Championships on Thursday at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center.

Broosova won her 21st-straight match with a straight sets victory over third-seeded Hilary Barte of Stanford, 6-3, 6-2. Earlier this season, Broosova defeated Barte 6-2, 2-6, 6-3 in Baylor's 4-3 loss to top-ranked Stanford at the ITA Indoor Championships.

"Lenka played great and competed well today," said head coach Joey Scrivano. "Barte is a good player, and Lenka was able to execute the game plan and win the match."

Broosova, who was named to the 2008 NCAA Women's Tennis All-Tournament Team earlier this week, improves her overall season record to 51-4, extending her Baylor tennis single-season wins record.

"We knew her pretty well because we played Stanford earlier this week in the team tournament," said Broosova. "ZZ (Zemenova) played her, so we had some video on her, and we figured out a game plan. It helped a lot by playing her earlier in the season in February at the ITA Indoors. I was pretty confident because I beat her before at the Indoors."

She returns to action on Friday to face No. 24 Reka Zsilinszka of Duke. Last fall, Zsilinszka defeated Broosova 6-3, 7-5 in the consolation play at the ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships.

No. 25 Zemenova rallied from a one-set deficit to defeat No. 58 Kelley Hyndman of Georgia, 2-6, 6-2, 6-2. In the first set, the two players broke each others' serve twice during the first four games before Hyndman held serve to take a 3-2 lead. Hyndman broke Zemenova's serve two more times in the first set to take the one-set lead. Zemenova battled back in the second and third sets, cruising to the win and a berth in the Round of 16. She will face 16th-ranked and 9-16 seeded Melanie Gloria of Fresno State on Friday.

"This was a tough match for ZZ today," said Scrivano. "When they played earlier in the year, ZZ played really well and made the match look easy. Hyndman played well and caused ZZ to change up her game. In the second set ZZ changed her mindset and started working points and chipping away."

With their second-round victories, Broosova and Zemenova earn spots in the Round of 16 at the NCAA Championships. Advancing to the Round of 16 also earns each player All-America honors. Broosova becomes an All-American for the first time, while Zemenova earns her fourth-straight All-America honor.

In doubles action, sixth-ranked Zemenova and Broosova were upset by No. 24 Liset Brito and Egle Petrauskaite of Florida International 4-6, 6-1, 6-2. The duo finished the season with an overall record of 36-10, including a 12-7 record against nationally ranked opponents.

Taylor Ormond lost her singles match to top-ranked Aurelija Miseviciute of Arkansas 6-1, 7-5. Ormond, the 2008 Big 12 Freshman of the Year, finishes the season with a 29-16 overall record.

"TO started slowly today," said Scrivano. "It took her a while to believe that she could compete with her opponent. She had some opportunities in the second set, but wasn't able to capitalize on them. This will be a learning experience for her and will really help her next season."

The 2008 NCAA Women's Tennis Singles and Doubles Championships continue on Friday. Live scoring and video can be found at www.TulsaHurricane.com.
