TULSA, Okla. -

Baylor women's tennis player Zuzana Zemenova upset top-seeded Aurelija Miseviciute of Arkansas on Sunday afternoon in the semifinals of the 2008 Women's Tennis Singles Championship at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center.

Zemenova, the only unseeded player remaining in the tournament, won a first-set tiebreaker, and held serve in the second set to down Miseviciute 7-6 (2), 6-4 to advance to the NCAA Championship match.

"ZZ is playing really well right now," said head coach Joey Scrivano. "She is really playing one match at a time. I know that's a cliché, but that's what she is doing so well. She is making adjustments to the game plan depending on the opponent."

Miseviciute, who earlier in the tournament eliminated Taylor Ormond and Lenka Broosova, failed in her third attempt to defeat a Baylor player in the singles tournament.

This marks the second time Zemenova has advanced to the NCAA Championship singles match. In 2005, Zemenova became the first unseeded player, and only the sixth freshman, in NCAA history to win the NCAA singles title.

Zemenova, who holds a 17-2 all-time record in the NCAA Singles Tournament, will play on Monday afternoon at 2 p.m. in the championship match. She will face seventh-seeded Amanda McDowell of Georgia Tech, a straight-sets winner over Fani Chifchieva of Auburn, 6-3, 6-2.

It's really amazing to see what ZZ has been able to do in this tournament," said Scrivano. "It seems like yesterday we were going through this when she was going to the finals as a freshman. She has to be one of the most consistent performers ever in the history of this tournament."

The four-time singles All-American is also the four-time Big 12 Player of the Year, the first athlete in any sport to be named Player of the Year in the history of the conference.
