Equestrian Wraps up Third Season

WACO, Texas - Baylor's equestrian team completed its third season with a banquet honoring the 2008 squad. The evening included team awards and recognition of the year's 15 letterwinners who participated in the team's outstanding season. While hosting the Varsity Equestrian National Championships for the second straight year, the English team finished a team-best sixth while the Western squad was ninth.
Head coach Ellen White and assistant coach Trista Armstrong honored four riders as the year's MVP riders in the four competitive events. In English, Shelby White (junior, Waco, Texas) earned the Flat award and Nicole Brown (junior, Zionsville, Ind.) was given the Fences honor. For Western, Allison Orosz (sophomore, Salem, Ohio) nabbed the Horsemanship decision and Madelyn Mooney (sophomore, Riverside, Calif.) was the Reining MVP.
Two Sportsmanship awards were given, one to English's Whitney McIlvain (freshman, Anchorage, Alaska) and one to Western's Anna Bowers (freshman, Granbury, Texas) while Kim Marlowe (junior, Albuquerque, N.M.) earned the team spirit award, Ashley Smith (freshman, Fulshear, Texas) was recognized for having the hardest work ethic and Amanda Miller (freshman, Bridgewater, Va.) earned the philanthropy/most encouraging award.
Four Bears were also honored as the Most Improved Rider for their event: Flat - Beth Banister (sophomore, Brighton, Colo.), Fences - Heather Healy (sophomore, Pasadena, Calif.), Horsemanship - Lindsay Douglas (sophomore, Issaquah, Wash.) and Reining - Kim Marlowe.
Additionally, the Bears also named their 2007-08 season letterwinners: First Year: Lindsay Douglas, Katie Buss, Kendra Vicary Second Year: Beth Banister, Heather Healy, Kim Marlowe, Madelyn Mooney, Allison Orosz, Valtie Riddle, Mary Smitson, Lindsey Tomko Third Year: Nicole Brown, Nicole McCoy, Shelby White, Cara Wilson
