Final Stats

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - New Mexico scored a pair of goals off set pieces and Baylor was unable to answer, falling 2-0 Friday night at the UNM Soccer Complex. With the loss, Baylor drops to 0-2 while New Mexico improves to 1-1-1.

"We have been asking the team all week to play with heart and intensity, and they did that tonight," head coach Marci Jobson said. "I have to give New Mexico credit, they took advantage of their set pieces and we were unable to finish our opportunities."

The Bears came out firing with three shots in game's opening five minutes, including a shot by junior Beckah Brady that ricocheted off the crossbar.

The Lobos got on the board in the 18th minute as a corner kick by Hannah Hand was headed back across the box and knocked in by Jael Fanning.

Baylor nearly answered just over a minute later on a corner by freshman Christine Clark, but the header by sophomore Lotto Smith missed just wide.

Baylor outshot New Mexico 6-5 in the opening stanza, but found itself down a goal heading into the break.

The Lobos widened the lead in the 79th minute off a free kick by Krista Peterson that was finished off for the goal by Amanda Collins, making the score 2-0.

New Mexico won the battle of the corner kicks, 11-3 and outshot Baylor 10-8 on the game. Clark led the way for the Bears with four shots and one shot on goal.

Baylor will be back in action on Sunday with its home opener against Presbyterian (0-1-0) at 1 p.m. Fans in attendance will get a free key tag at the gate.
