Final Stats

Two first half goals by the Mean Green proved too much for Baylor to overcome as the Bears fell to North Texas, 2-0 on Friday night at Betty Lou Mays Field. With the loss, Baylor drops to 3-4-0, while North Texas improves to 5-1-1.

"I thought we played hard tonight, we just made a critical error on set piece that hurt our momentum," head coach Marci Jobson said. "We had some great opportunities, but we just couldn't finish."

Baylor came out as the aggressor in the opening minutes with sophomore Lotto Smith taking two shots in the opening 12 minutes. North Texas turned the momentum in the 15th minute as Kendall Juett's free kick found Brittany Cleveland in front of the goal for her first score of the season.

The Mean Green added its second goal in the 28th minute after Kelsey Perlman surprised Baylor goalkeeper, Gianna Quintana, with a blast from 25 yards out that found the upper corner of the net.

The Bears came out strong in the second half, and in the 61st minute, Baylor thought it had cut the North Texas lead to one. A free kick by sophomore Lindsey Johnson was sent in to the box and tapped in, but the Bears were called offside and the goal was negated.

North Texas nearly added a third goal in the 81st minute, but resdshirt freshman Courtney Seelhorst made a great save on a one-on-one, and a follow up by Perlman was cleared off the line by junior Megan Humke.

Baylor peppered the North Texas goal with eight shots in the second half, but was unable to find the back of the net.

The Mean Green outshot Baylor just 12-11 for the game, but took six corners while the Bears took just one. Smith led the way for Baylor with four shots (two on goal).

Baylor will wrap up its six-game homestand against Houston on Sunday at 1 p.m. All fans will receive a free team autograph card, and the team will be available for autographs following the contest.
