WACO, Texas - Nichole Jones was named the first 2008 Big 12 Cross Country Runner of the Week for the 2008 season the league office announced on Tuesday. The weekly honor marks the third of Jones' career in cross country. In 2007, Jones was selected as the runner of the week on the first two weeks of the season.
Jones began 2008 in similar fashion as she repeated her 2007 performance at the Baylor Twilight Invitational. She finished in first-place by six seconds over teammate Erin Bedell with a time of 14:03.91, and helped the Bears to a second-straight team championship as the team recorded a perfect 15 team points and secured the top six positions in the race. The win for Jones marked the fifth individual title of her career.
Baylor returns to action next Saturday as the Bears and Lady Bears travel to College Station, Texas to compete in the Texas A&M Invitational.
