WACO, Texas - Baylor senior offensive tackle Dan Gay will play for the West team in the 84th East-West Shrine Game Saturday at the University of Houston's Robertson Stadium. The annual collegiate all-star game kicks off at 3 p.m. CST and will be televised live on ESPN2.
Gay, who earned honorable mention All-Big 12 honors in his final season in 2008, will be coached on the West squad by former Texas A&M, St. Louis/Arizona Cardinals and Alabama head coach Gene Stallings.
The East-West Shrine Game is the oldest and one of the most respected postseason collegiate bowl games. Every year since 1925, the East-West Game has been played to raise funds for Shriners Hospitals for Children and to raise awareness about the expert orthopaedic, burn, spinal cord injury rehabilitation, and cleft lip and palate care, available at no charge to patients and families, through the 22 Shriners Hospitals for Children.
A four-year letterman, Gay spent his final three seasons on the offensive line after converting from a defensive tackle. He started each of the last 34 games of his career. Gay was part of a Baylor O-line that generated 2,349 rushing yards in 2008, the highest mark since 1994, and 29 rushing touchdowns, the third-most in school history.
Gay will become the 58th Baylor student-athlete to compete in the East-West Shrine Game, and the first since current Carolina Panther cornerback C.J. Wilson played in 2007.
