WACO, Texas - The Baylor women's tennis team opened the season ranked No. 4 in the country according to the Intercollegiate Tennis Association women's team rankings released on Tuesday. In addition, the Lady Bears are scheduled to play 18 teams included in Tuesday's rankings.

The fourth-place ranking is the highest for Baylor in the season-opening poll. Last season the Lady Bears were ranked 13th overall, while Baylor was ranked ninth to open the 2007 season.

In addition to the team rankings, singles and doubles rankings were also released on Tuesday. Taylor Ormond is ranked No. 19 in the nation, while newcomer Csilla Borsanyi holds a No. 32 ranking. Jelena Stanivuk is ranked No. 65 in the first 2009 ranking.

Lenka Broosova, who was ranked No. 8 in the ITA Preseason rankings last fall, was not ranked after struggling through the fall season with an injury.

Broosova and Borsanyi were ranked as the No. 2 doubles team in the country.

Baylor is scheduled to face at least 18 teams in the ITA rankings, including 10 squads ranked in the Top 25.

Baylor opens the 2009 season at the National Collegiate Tennis Classic in Palm Springs, Calif. and the UNLV/Freeman Memorial in Las Vegas, Nev. on Jan. 16. The Lady Bears open dual match action on Jan. 31 as Baylor plays host to Princeton in the first round of the National Indoors Qualifier in Waco, Texas.
