WACO - Baylor (8-4-4) used five second-half goals en route to a 6-0 victory over Houston Baptist (6-7-3) Friday night at Betty Lou Mays Field. The six goals were the most this season by the Bears and the most since scoring 10 against Prairie View A&M on Sept. 7, 2008.
"We got off to a slow start," head coach Marci Jobson said. "But we talked at halftime about really putting this game away and I think they took that to heart and accomplished it."
The Bears got half their goals from the bench, as junior Allie Moran registered a pair of goals and freshman Michelle Hagen notched one of her own.
Baylor got on the board in the 19th minute, as Bethany Johnston took a corner kick that found the head of a leaping Lindsey Johnson for her first goal of the year and a 1-0 lead.
Despite outshooting the Huskies 9-0, BU held just a 1-0 advantage at the break.
The Bears picked up the pace in the second half, beginning with Lotto Smith's eighth goal of the year, as a Johnson header hit the crossbar and Smith followed with a header of her own in the 47th minute to put Baylor up 2-0.
Smith had a foot in the next Baylor goal as well, sending in a cross that found Lisa Sliwinski for her fourth goal of the year and a 3-0 advantage.
Moran got in on the action with her first goal of the year, finishing on a rebound that had the goalkeeper out of position in the 71st minute for a 4-0 lead.
She struck again just two minutes later, this time off a cross from Amanda Mauk, with a one-touch finish from 10 yards out.
Hagen wrapped up the scoring for the Bears in the 86th minute, as a cross from Moran found her left foot and beat the keeper to the far post for her first career goal and a 6-0 advantage.
Baylor dominated in shots, 18-3 and held a 6-1 advantage in corner kicks.
Senior Gianna Quintana had to make just one save on the night, as she recorded her third shutout of the season and the sixth overall for the Baylor squad.
The Bears will hit the road for a match at Oklahoma State on Sunday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. in Stillwater, Okla.
