PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. - Baylor's Nina Secerbegovic was victorious in both of her pre-qualifying matches at the ITA Riviera All-American in Pacific Palisades, Calif., on Saturday afternoon.
Secerbegovic got off to a fast start in her first match against UCLA's Nina Pantic, winning in straight sets, 6-1, 6-4. The sophomore then had to battle back after dropping the first set, 4-6, in the second round to Denver's Ute Schnoy. Secerbegovic found her stroke in the second set winning 6-1, then finished off Schnoy 6-4 in the third.
"It's always good for a player to struggle and find a way to get through," head coach Joey Scrivano said. "Nina made some great adjustments on her service games and played very focused on big points. I'm proud of the way she's developing a champion's mindset."
Baylor's women's tennis team will be back in action at the ITA Riviera All-American in the qualifying rounds starting Tuesday, Oct. 6.
