WACO - Tied at one, sophomore Christine Clark knocked in a Bethany Johnston corner kick in the 85th minute to give Baylor (5-3-3, 1-2-2) a 2-1 win over Colorado (7-6-0, 4-1-0) Sunday afternoon at Betty Lou Mays Field. The win was the first over the Buffaloes since a 3-0 home victory on Oct. 19, 2001.

"Today was a total team effort," head coach Marci Jobson said. "We have been struggling to find the back of the net, but we have been playing some very good soccer lately. It was nice to finally break through, get some goals and a victory."

The Bears and Buffaloes fought through sloppy field conditions, as rainfall had soaked the playing surface. Baylor's Chelsea Geller set the tone early with a shot that was saved by Kara Linder less than a minute into the game. The Bears took six shots in the opening half but were unable to find the back of the net, as BU used 24 players in the first stanza.

Tied at zero, the Bears kept up the pressure until they finally broke through with their first goal of conference play in the 70th minute. Freshman Lisa Sliwinski notched her second goal of the year after beating a CU defender to the left side and sending a chip over the keeper's head and into the side net for a 1-0 lead.

Colorado would answer just nine minutes later, as Kassidy Fitzpatrick took a shot that skipped in front of goalie Gianna Quintana and through her legs to tie the game at one apiece.

Baylor would not go down and answered right back with the game-winner in the 85th minute. A corner kick by Johnston nearly went in the near post, but Clark shielded the goalkeeper and knocked it in for her second goal of the year and a 2-1 lead.

The Buffaloes made one last surge, and after a Baylor foul outside the box, Quintana made a huge save on a shot by Kelly Butler in the 88th minute to preserve the victory.

The Bears outshot Colorado 15-9, including an 8-4 advantage in shots on goal.

Baylor will hit the road for a pair of games, starting with a contest at Nebraska on Friday, Oct. 9 at 4:00 p.m. and finishing with a match at Iowa State on Sunday, Oct. 11 at 1:00 p.m.
