WOMEN'S TENNIS HOSTS TEXAS TECH, UCLA
The fifth-ranked Baylor women's tennis team returns home to open a five-match homestand as the Lady Bears play host to No. 62 Texas Tech on Friday afternoon at 1:30 p.m. and ninth-ranked UCLA on Saturday at 12 noon. Baylor is coming off a 4-3 loss at No. 8 California on Tuesday afternoon. Baylor dropped its fourth match of the season, losing all four by identical 4-3 scores. LAST TIME AGAINST TEXAS TECH, UCLA
The top-seeded Baylor women's tennis team advanced to the semifinals of the Big 12 Championships with a 4-0 blanking of Texas Tech on Friday at the George P. Mitchell Tennis Center at College Station, Texas. The Lady Bears will now take on Colorado match in semifinal action at 3 p.m. on Saturday. The victory over the Red Raiders raised Baylor's record to 26-2 while Texas Tech, the tournament's No. 9 seed, falls to 12-12. The victory extended the Lady Bears' win streak to nine matches. Lenka Broosova and Zuzana Zemenova both posted singles and doubles wins to enable the Lady Bears to claim the victory. With its win in doubles, Baylor has now won the doubles points in 22 matches this season. Zemenova and Broosova, ranked No. 5, were the first tandem off the court with an 8-3 win over 41st-ranked Janet Durham and Samantha van der Drift. Taylor Ormond and Stanivuk, ranked No. 59, sealed doubles with an 8-6 triumph over Brenna Jackson and Kerryn Potgeiter. All three singles winners claimed victory in straight sets. No. 17 Broosova was the first Baylor player off the court with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Kelsey Garland while Zemenova, ranked No. 24, won by the identical score over van der Drift. Zuzana Chmelarova, playing at No. 5, clinched the victory with a 6-1, 7-5 win over Potgeiter.
Sporting a new No. 4 ranking in the ITA rankings, the Baylor women's tennis team picked up its seventh straight victory over a nationally ranked opponent by defeating No. 11 UCLA, 5-2, Tuesday in Los Angeles, Calif. Baylor (9-1) fell behind early following doubles, but quickly rebounded in singles with wins by No. 18 Lenka Broosova, No. 22 Taylor Ormond, No. 24 Zuzana Zemenova, Jelena Stanivuk and Karolina Filipiak. Filipiak earned Baylor's first point of the match at No. 6 singles to return to the win column after a hard-fought loss on Monday against Pepperdine. Filipiak's 6-3, 6-1 victory over Anna-Viktoria Lind tied the match at one before the Bears jumped out in front. The Bears earned the next three points as Zemenova defeated No. 10 Riza Zalameda (6-2, 6-2), Stanivuk defeated Ashley Joelson (6-4, 6-1) and Broosova defeated Tracy Lin (6-4, 6-4) to clinch the match. After UCLA earned a victory at No. 5 singles, Ormond fought back from a first set loss to pick up a 2-6, 7-5, 10-7 against No. 27 Andrea Remynse. The victory came just hours after Baylor earned its highest team ranking in program history. Prior to the latest rankings, Baylor highest billing came during the 2006 season when the Bears were ranked No. 5 nationally for four consecutive weeks.

California won four singles matches as the eighth-ranked Golden Bears defeated fifth-ranked Baylor, 4-3, on Tuesday morning at the Hellman Tennis Complex. Baylor drops its fourth match of the season, one more loss than the Bears recorded during the entire 2008 season. All four of Baylor's losses this season have come by a 4-3 score. For the third-straight match, Baylor won the doubles point, earning victories on courts two and three. No. 24 Csilla Borsanyi and Lenka Broosova defeated Bojana Bobusic and Claire Ilcinkas, 8-3, on court two to get Baylor on the board first. Nina Secerbegovic and Kasia Siwosz clinched the point for Baylor on court three with an 8-6 win over Stephany Chang and Marion Ravelojaona. Moments later on court one, No. 13 Mari Andersson and Jana Juricova defeated No. 55 Taylor Ormond and Jelena Stanivuk, 8-3. California evened the match at 1-1 with a win on court four as No. 23 Bobusic downed No. 73 Borsanyi, 6-0, 6-1. Secerbegovic put Baylor back in front with a 6-0, 6-2 win on court five over Ravelojaona. No. 26 Juricova defeated No. 46 Broosova, 6-0, 6-2, on court one to give the Golden Bears a 2-1 lead. Cal stretched the lead to 3-1 as No. 42 Ilcinkas rallied from a one-set deficit to down No. 34 Stanivuk, 2-6, 6-2, 6-2, on court three. Chang defeated Siwosz, 7-6 (3), 6-0, on court six before No. 32 Ormond rallied after dropping the first set to defeat No. 74 Andersson, 2-6, 6-1, 6-3.
