WACO, Texas - The fourth-ranked Baylor women's tennis team only dropped one game in doubles play and swept all six singles matches as the Lady Bears defeated Iowa State, 7-0, on Saturday morning.
The Lady Bears came out firing on all cylinders during doubles play, as the three Baylor teams combined to win 21 straight games before Iowa State got on the board at No. 2 doubles. Karolina Filipiak and Zuzana Chmelarova defeated Tessa Lang and Liza Wischer, 8-0, on court three, while Lenka Broosova and Jelena Stanivuk downed Erin Karonis and Kara Hickey, 8-0, on court one. On court two, Csilla Borsanyi and Kasia Siwosz rolled over Maria Macedo and Marie Chartier, 8-1.
Baylor continued its hot play in singles action as No. 66 Borsanyi rolled to a 6-0, 6-1 win on court three over Lang. No. 35 Broosova dropped just two games as she defeated Macedo, 6-1, 6-1, on court two. Filipiak downed Wischer, 6-1, 6-2, on court five to secure the win for Baylor.
No. 37 Taylor Ormond rallied from a one-set deficit to defeat Karonis, 3-6, 6-1, 10-3, on court one. Chmelarova also rallied to win in a third-set super tiebreaker, 5-7, 6-3, 10-2, over Hickey on court six. Siwosz one a first-set tiebreaker and held on to defeat Chartier on court five.
Baylor returns to action on Saturday afternoon as the Lady Bears face No. 58 Nebraska at 1 p.m.
