WACO, Texas - The fifth-ranked Baylor women's tennis team downed No. 19 Michigan, 5-2, on Friday night at the Baylor Tennis Center. The Bears move to 6-3 overall this season, while Michigan's record falls to 5-4.

The Bears have now won all four home matches this season, and have won nine straight matches at home dating back to last season.

"I thought that we did a great job competing tonight," said head coach Joey Scrivano. "I was a little bit disappointed in our execution. We got in a hole in a few matches and had to fight to get back into them. I was proud of our effort, particularly at No. 3 doubles. We will need to execute at a high level in our matches next week. I am very impressed with Michigan. They are feisty and forced us to play. They will make some noise later in the season."

Baylor swept all three doubles matches to take the early 1-0 lead. No. 55 Taylor Ormond and Jelena Stanivuk made quick work of No. 38 Chisako Sugiyama and Tania Mahtani, 8-4, on court one, while No. 24 Lenka Broosova and Csilla Borsanyi rolled over Whitney Taney and Rika Tatsuno, 8-4, on court two. On court three, Nina Sercerbegovic and Kasia Siwosz trailed Lindsey Howard and Denise Muresan, 6-1, before rallying for a 9-8 (5) win on court three.

In singles action, Baylor won four matches in straight sets. On court five, Sercerbegovic defeated Muresan, 6-3, 6-1, to give Baylor a 2-0 lead. No. 34 Stanivuk made quick work of Taney, 6-1, 6-0, on court four, while No. 73 Borsanyi rolled over Mahtani, 6-1, 6-2, on court three to secure the match for Baylor.

No. 46 Broosova defeated Tatsuno, 6-4, 6-3, on court one to push the Baylor lead to 5-0. On courts two and six, Baylor rallied from one-set deficits to send the matches into a third set supertiebreaker. On court six, Siwosz fell to Michelle Sulahian, 6-2, 3-6, 10-4. On court three, No. 32 Ormond won five straight games to force a third set, but fell to No. 58 Sugiyama, 6-2, 3-6, 11-9.

Baylor returns to action on Tuesday as the Lady Bears travel to face seventh-ranked California at 12 noon.
