WOMEN'S TENNIS TRAVELS TO FACE TEXAS A&M
The fifth-ranked Baylor women's tennis team hits the road for a mid-week showdown as the Lady Bears face No. 35 Texas A&M in a Big 12 Conference showdown at 6 p.m. on Wednesday at the George P. Mitchell Tennis Center. For the second-straight match, Baylor will play a match with Big 12 Conference Championship implications. Last week, Baylor rolled over No. 31 Texas, 6-1, in a matchup of the league's remaining undefeated teams. Baylor won four straight singles matches and endured a 1 hour, 13 minutes rain delay as the fourth-ranked Lady Bears defeated No. 31 Texas A&M 5-2 on Wednesday night at the Baylor Tennis Center. Baylor improves to 20-2 overall this season, 6-0 in Big 12 action. The Lady Bears are now 15-2 against nationally-ranked opponents and have won 18 of their last 19 matches. In doubles action, Tiffany Clifford and Anna Blagodarova upset second-ranked Zuzana Zemenova and Lenka Broosova 8-5 on court one. In number two doubles, No. 57 Taylor Ormond and Jelena Stanivuk battled to a 9-7 win over Christi Liles and Elze Potgieter. In the deciding doubles match, Jana Bielikova and Zuzana Chmelarova held an 8-7 lead, but Stephanie Davidson and Morgan Frank were able to hold serve to force a tiebreaker. In the tiebreak, Texas A&M jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead and were never challenged as they cruised to a 9-8 (1) win to secure the doubles point for the Aggies. No. 13 Broosova opened the scoring for Baylor with a straight-sets victory over Blagodarova 6-2, 6-0 on court three. Stanivuk put Baylor in the lead with a 6-3, 6-2 win against Clifford at number four singles. No. 28 Ormond gave Baylor the 3-1 lead on court two with a 6-4, 6-4 win versus Liles. Holding serve on match point, Zemenova double-faulted, making the score deuce at 3-6, 6-1, 5-2. Rain started falling and play was immediately stopped. After a rain delay and the mandatory 10-minute warm-up, Zemenova won two straight points to win the match 3-6, 6-1, 6-2 over Potgieter. Bielikova lost 3-6, 7-5, 3-6 on court five to Frank before Chmelarova defeated Davidson 7-6, 4-6, 10-5 in a third-set supertiebreaker more than five hours after the first serve of doubles play.

The third-ranked Baylor women's tennis team won the doubles point and cruised to five singles wins as the Lady Bears rolled over No. 31 Texas, 6-1, on Saturday afternoon at the Baylor Tennis Center. With the win, Baylor improves to 16-4 overall, 7-0 in Big 12 action. The Lady Bears claim the outright lead in the league standings, handing Texas its first conference loss this season. Baylor opened doubles play with a win at court one as No. 16 Lenka Broosova and Csilla Borsanyi rolled over No. 25 Vanja Corovic and Marija Milic, 8-4. On court two, No. 59 Taylor Ormond and Jelena Stanivuk held a 7-4 lead with serve to close the doubles point. With Ormond serving for the point, the Lady Bears trailed 40-0 before holding off three break points to win the game and secure the doubles point, 8-4. Krista Damico and Maggie Mello defeated Karolina Filipiak and Kasia Siwosz, 8-5, on court three. Baylor quickly extending its lead in singles play as No. 39 Stanivuk rolled over Mello, 6-2, 6-0, on court four and No. 43 Broosova defeated Larsson, 6-0, 6-4, on court two. Texas got on the board on court six as Sarah Lancaster defeated Filipiak, 6-3, 6-4. No. 74 Borsanyi defeated Damico, 6-3, 6-0, while Siwosz held on to down Davison, 6-2, 7-5. On court one, No. 44 Ormond rallied from a 5-2 deficit in the first set to win 7-5, as Ormond held serve through eight deuce points. After No. 118 Corovic rallied to win the second set, 6-4, Ormond dominated the third-set super tiebreaker to complete the 7-5, 4-6, 10-5 win.
