Box Score

FORT WORTH, Texas - The fifth-ranked Baylor women's tennis team won four straight singles matches to defeat No. 28 TCU, 4-1, on Friday evening at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center. The match was moved to the tennis center's indoor courts due to inclement weather in the Fort Worth area.

Baylor improves to 18-4 overall this year, and defeated its 15th ranked opponent this season.

In addition, sophomores Karolina Filipiak, Taylor Ormond and Jelena Stanivuk were named to the 2009 Academic All-Big 12 first-team, the league office announced on Friday afternoon. Each player receives their first-career Academic All-Big 12 honor.

In doubles play, No. 31 Macall Harkins and Anna Sydorska upset eighth-ranked Csilla Borsanyi and Lenka Broosova, 8-4, on court one. Baylor leveled the score on court two as No. 64 Ormond and Stanivuk defeated Katariina Tuihimaa and Idunn Hertzberg, 8-4. On court three, No. 80 Nina Munch-Soegaard and Maria Babanova downed Nina Secerbegovic and Kasia Siwosz, 8-6, to claim the doubles point for TCU.

Baylor dropped the doubles point for just the fifth time this season, and the first time since losing two of three doubles matches at home to then-ninth-ranked UCLA.

"TCU came out firing in the doubles and we didn't find a way to stay with them," said head coach Joey Scrivano. "I'm very disappointed in our inability to make adjustments at #1 and #3 doubles. This is an area that we need to get corrected quickly."

No. 31 Broosova evened the match at 1-1 with a 6-2, 6-3 win over No. 78 Harkins on court two. Broosova extends her dual-match winning streak to 10 straight matches, becoming the fourth Baylor player with a current 10-plus match winning streak, joining Secerbegovic (16), Stanivuk (11) and Borsanyi (10).

Secerbegovic put Baylor in front for good with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Sydorska on court five. No. 46 Ormond rolled over 14th-ranked Munch-Soegaard, 6-2, 6-4, on court one. No. 44 Stanivuk clinched the match for the Lady Bears with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Hertzberg on court four.

"Taylor played some great tennis today," said Scrivano. "I'm pleased with way she focused and competed from start to finish. I wish I could say that we played well but we did not. We definitely need to refocus and get back to doing the fundamentals well."

The remaining matches were suspended with Touhimaa leading No. 64 Borsanyi, 7-5, 3-2, in the second set on court four. The court six match between Siwosz and Gaby Mastromarino had not started,

Baylor returns to action on Saturday as the Lady Bears face Oklahoma at 12 noon in Norman, Okla.
