STILLWATER, Okla. - The fifth-ranked Baylor women's tennis team swept Oklahoma State on Sunday at the DeBois Tennis Center.
With the win, Baylor improves to 10-0 in the Big 12 Conference and clinches at least a share of the league regular season title for the fifth-straight season. With a win on Wednesday against Colorado, Baylor secures the regular season championship outright.
No. 64 Taylor Ormond and Jelena Stanivuk opened doubles play with an 8-1 win over Iryna Khatsko and Alisa Buslaieva on court two. The Lady Bears earned the doubles point as eighth-ranked Lenka Broosova and Csilla Borsanyi downed JoAnne Karaitiana and Galina Semenova, 8-4, at No. 1 doubles. On court three, Baylor's Zuzana Chmelarova and Karolina Filipiak fell to Maryna Tkachenko and Sasha Belova, 8-7.
Baylor swept through all six singles matches, winning in straight sets on five courts. No. 31 Broosova opened the scoring with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Khatsko on court two. No. 44 Stanivuk downed Tkachenko, 6-2, 6-3, on court three, while Chmelarova rolled over Semenova, 6-2, 6-4, on court six to clinch the match.
No. 64 Borsanyi won a first-set tiebreaker and cruised through the second set to defeat Belova, 7-6 (5), 6-0. No. 46 Ormond downed Karaitiana, 6-4, 6-1, on court one, while Filipiak rallied to defeat Buslaieva in a third-set super tiebreaker, 7-5, 4-6, 10-8.
The Lady Bears return to action on Wednesday as Baylor faces Colorado in Norman, Okla. in a match that was rescheduled due to snow in the Boulder, Colo. area earlier this season.
