The Baylor softball team (37-20) will begin its quest for a second trip to the Women's College World Series as it takes on No. 21 Louisiana-Lafayette (43-11) Friday at 7:30 p.m. at Getterman Stadium. It marks the first regional host for Baylor since 2005.
The Lady Bears, who earned an at-large bid to the championship, enter the weekend as the two-seed. The Ragin' Cajuns, who earned an automatic bid by winning the Sun Belt post-season title, enter the championship as the three-seed. Donna Bourgeois leads in the circle with a 29-8 record and a 1.10 ERA as the ULL staff has an ERA of 0.95.
Northwestern, who earned an at-large bid to the championship after finishing third in the Big 10, compiled a 31-13 record in 2009, playing its fewest regular-season games since competing in 43 in 2002. Tammy Williams leads the way with a .445 average, 15 home runs and 36 RBI.
Texas State earns the No. 4 seed in the regional and received a bid as the Southland League champions. The Bobcats enters with a record of 39-16 on the season, including a 24-6 mark in conference play.
