WACO, Texas - The Baylor men's golf team earned its 12th consecutive invitation to NCAA postseason competition as the Bears were selected to compete at the 2009 NCAA Stillwater Regional, the NCAA office announced Monday.
Baylor is one of 13 teams tabbed for the Stillwater Regional, which will be held May 14-16 at the par-72, 7,408-yard Karsten Creek Golf Club in Stillwater, Okla. Joining the Bears in Stillwater will be Big 12 champion and host Oklahoma State, Arkansas, TCU, LSU, Chattanooga, Pepperdine, Michigan State, Northwestern, Tulsa, Denver, Wichita State and Oral Roberts.
Prior to its 12th-straight regional selection, Baylor posted a fifth-place finish at the 2009 Big 12 Championship in Hutchinson, Kan., while senior Bill Allcorn finished second overall. Allcorn leads the Bears with a 73.11 stroke average through 35 rounds. Joakim Mikkelsen is second with a 73.26 stroke average, followed by Colton Williams with a 73.57 average.
Six 54-hole regional tournaments will be conducted May 14-16. Thirteen teams and 10 individuals not on those teams will compete at three regionals while the other three regionals will have 14 teams and five individuals not on those teams. The low five teams and the low individual will advanced to the finals from each regional Other regional sites include Galloway, N.J. (Galloway National Golf Club), Austin, Texas (University of Texas Golf Club), Daly City, Calif. (Lake Merced Golf Club), Sorrento, Fla. (Red Tail Golf Club) and Bowling Green, Ky. (The Club at Olde Stone).
The 112th Annual NCAA Division I Men's Golf Championship will be conducted May 26-30 at the Inverness Club in Toledo, Ohio, and will be hosted by the University of Toledo.
