WACO, Texas - Four Baylor women's tennis players were named to the All-Big 12 team, while Csilla Borsanyi and Joey Scrivano were named the Newcomer and Coach of the Year, respectively, the league office announced on Wednesday.
Fourth-ranked Baylor will host the first and second rounds of the 2009 NCAA Women's Tennis Championship on Saturday and Sunday at the Baylor Tennis Center.
Borsanyi, Lenka Broosova, Taylor Ormond and Jelena Stanivuk were each named All-Big 12 in singles, while all four were also named to the All-Big 12 team in doubles as well.
Borsanyi, a transfer from Florida, was named the league's Newcomer of the Year, while Scrivano was named Coach of the Year for the second-straight season.
Scrivano led Baylor won its fifth-straight Big 12 regular season title after finishing the conference season with a perfect 11-0 record. The Lady Bears also captured their fourth-straight conference tournament championship, defeating Texas 4-1 in the championship match.
Broosova earned All-Big 12 honors for the third-straight season, while Ormond was named to the All-Big 12 team for the second time. Broosova, currently ranked No. 33 in the nation, finished the season with a 22-3 dual match record, including a 9-0 mark in the Big 12. Ormond, ranked No. 39 sports a record of 7-2 in league matches.
Stanivuk and Borsanyi earn their first all-conference citations. Stanivuk currently ranks No. 44 in the nation and holds a 21-2 dual match record, including 9-0 in Big 12 matches. Borsanyi holds a No. 70 national ranking, and holds a 10-0 conference record.
Baylor earns the Newcomer of the Year award for the second-straight season. Stanivuk was named Newcomer of the Year during the 2008 season.
Baylor returns to action on Saturday at 2 p.m. as the Lady Bears play host to UTA in the first round of the NCAA Championships at the Baylor Tennis Center.
