WT Ormond Plays in World University Games

Baylor junior Taylor Ormond is keeping in shape over the summer while representing her home nation, Canada, by competing in the recently completed World University Games Tennis Tournament in Belgrade, Serbia.

Ormond, a native of Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, competed in both singles and doubles in the tournament.

In singles, Ormond breezed past Slolvenia's Maja Senica, 6-0, 6-2 in the first round. In the second round she lost the first set to Spain's Rosa Sitja Gibert, 6-3, but rebounded to take the next two sets, 7-5, 6-4, to advance to the round of 16. Next up for Ormond was the tournament's No. 3 seed, Ksenia Lykina of Russia, who currently holds a WTA ranking of 219. Lykina downed Ormond, 7-6(5), 6-0, then went on to claim the tournament singles crown.

In doubles action, Ormond teamed with fellow Canadian Stephanie Roy. In first round action the tandem defeated Kathie Gater and Claire Ricketts of Great Britain, 6-4, 6-2. The Canadian duo was eliminated from the tournament by the sixth-seeded team of Oxana Lyubtsova and Mariya Malkhasyan of the Ukraine, 6-0, 6-3.
