LAFAYETTE, La. - The Baylor soccer team (3-0-2) continued its undefeated ways, scoring two first-half goals en route to a 3-1 victory over Louisiana-Lafayette (0-5-1) Sunday afternoon at the Ragin' Cajuns Track/Soccer Facility. The Bears' mark of being undefeated through the first five games matches the 2007 squad which went 4-0-1 in the opening five matches.
Baylor outshot Louisiana-Lafayette 15-6, as the Bears continued the trend of outshooting their opponents, now having done so in each of the first five games.
"Our goal was to start fast and we did a better job of that than we did the last game," head coach Marci Jobson said. "We want to be a better road team than we were last year, so I am proud of their effort to come out this weekend and get two road wins."
The Bears struck first in the 22nd minute, as a cross from Betsy Kyle was headed by Dana Larsen to the head of Lotto Smith, who put it in the back of the net for her second goal of the year.
Baylor was not done, however, as six minutes later freshman Lisa Sliwinski buried a free kick from 22 yards out for her first goal of the season to put BU up by a two goal margin.
The Bears took nine shots in the opening half, while ULL had three, all saves by Gianna Quintana.
BU put the game away late in the second half, as freshman Chelsea Geller knocked in a rebound near the right post in the 81st minute for her second goal in as many games.
The Ragin' Cajuns scored their lone goal just moments later on their own loose ball as the rebound came to Cayla Chapman for the goal, making it 3-1.
The Bears will next be in action as they head to North Texas Friday, Sept. 11 at 7:00 p.m. for their third-straight road game.
