WACO, Texas - Baylor's fifth-ranked women's tennis team lit up the scoreboard with a 4-0 win over No. 65 Brown in the ITA Kickoff Weekend championship round at the Baylor Tennis Center.
With the win, the Lady Bears move to 2-0 on the season and qualify for the ITA National Team Indoor Championships in Madison, Wis., on Feb. 12-15.
"We vastly improved in doubles today," head coach Joey Scrivano said. "We made really good adjustments from yesterday. I think overall, we just played a better match, cleaner match. I am glad that we advanced to the national indoor because that tournament obviously gives us a lot of opportunities. That's a tournament we want to be in every year."
In doubles play, all three BU duos were clicking, with position No. 2 and No. 3, winning easily with scores of 8-1 on both courts. Those two wins clinched the doubles point for Baylor. At No. 2, Carla Lindlar and Nina Secerbegovic defeated Emily Ellis and Kathrin Sorokko. At No. 3, Karolina Filipiak and Taylor Ormond made quick work of Julie Flanzer and Misia Krasowski.
The momentum carried over into singles play, as Baylor took three points to clinch the win. Filipiak had a great performance, losing zero games on her way to a 6-0, 6-0 win. No. 24 Nina Secerbegovic dropped just two games, winning 6-0, 6-2, while Lindlar dropped just three, winning 6-2, 6-1.
"Without question, (Filipiak) is our most improved player," Scrivano said. "When she finds her form, she is pretty darn tough. When we have our full lineup in and she is playing No. 6, she can play with anybody in the country."
Baylor will be back on the court at No. 7 Miami in their first road dual match of the season. The first serve is scheduled for 11 a.m. ET, 10 a.m. CT.
