Complete Jack Nicklaus Invitational Results in PDF Format

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Baylor men's golf team posted its third consecutive round of 300 Tuesday, finishing ninth at the inaugural Jack Nicklaus Invitational at Scioto Country Club.

After posting the lowest round of the tournament, Oklahoma State (295-285-284=864) claimed the team title. Illinois (290-291-289=870) finished in second place, six shots behind the Cowboys, while Texas (303-283-285=871) placed third. Arkansas (286-292-294=872), which entered the final round with a two-shot lead over Oklahoma State, finished fourth. Baylor finished six strokes behind host and eighth-place Ohio State (294-295-305=894).

"We didn't really get anything going Tuesday," head coach Greg Priest said. "This course was a little more than we could handle, but it shows us where we are as a team."

Illinois' Luke Guthrie earned individual medalist honors, taking home a three-stroke victory at 5-under 205. Guthrie and Oklahoma State's Peter Uihlein (2-under 208), who finished second, were the only golfers to conclude the tournament under-par.

"It's still early in the season and we now know the work that needs to be done," Priest said. "We need to become more consistent in all facets of the game."

Junior Joakim Mikkelsen (74-73-76=223) and freshman Niclas Mansson (74-76-73=223) posted Baylor's best individual performances of the tournament, finishing tied for 21st at 13-over. Lorenzo Scotto tied for 33rd after carding a 16-over 226 and Payne Gniewek tied for 36th at 18-over 228. Freshman Jerry Ruiz, making his season debut in the lineup, finished 49th at 25-over 235.

"I thought Niclas (Mansson) had a good finish," Priest said. "It was a good opportunity for him to get some experience in the lineup."

Baylor concludes the fall portion of its schedule Nov. 1-2 when it hosts the Royal Oaks Intercollegiate at Royal Oaks Country Club in Dallas.
