XC Competes at NCAA Pre-Nationals

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - Baylor's cross country team took on some of the nation's elite teams, finishing 22nd on the women's side and 30th on the men's side at the NCAA Pre-Nationals in Terre Haute, Ind. The event was held at the Wabash Family Sports Center, the site of the upcoming 2010 NCAA Championships.
Sophomore Cate Westenhover led the women's team with a 68th-place finish and a 6,000-meter time of 21:32.0. Next across the line for Baylor was freshman Robyn Bennett in her best performance of the season. Bennett placed 89th with a time of 21:46.2. Katie Shaw and Samantha Patty finished one-tenth of a second apart in 128th and 129th place with Shaw crossing first in 22:03.8. Leigh Ann Ganzar completed the top-five for Baylor in 142nd with a time of 22:13.4.
On the men's side, Robbie Knorr had the best individual finish of the day for Baylor with a 44th-place finish. Knorr completed the 8,000-meter course in 24:22.6. Brandon White also turned in a solid effort for the Bears, placing 122nd with a time of 25:05.9. Ben Haby, Jeff Sadler and Brad Miles all finished within a seven-second span, with Haby in 163rd at 25:37.6. Sadler placed 168th at 25:41.5 and Miles was 172nd at 25:44.7.
Also competing on Saturday at the Chile Pepper Festival was Baylor's second group of women. Sophomore Samantha Allen led the crew with a 199th-place finish to help the Bears to 40th overall as a team.
Baylor will have a weekend off to prepare for the Big 12 Cross Country Championships in its next event on Oct. 30. The league championships will take place in Stillwater, Okla, beginning at 10 a.m.
