USTA/ITA Regional Draws
WACO, Texas - The Baylor women's tennis team will serve as the host site for the USTA/ITA Texas Regional Championships from Oct. 22-26, with action taking place at both the Baylor Tennis Center and Waco Regional Tennis Center in Waco, Texas. Baylor is one of 12 regional sites.
The Lady Bears will place four players in the singles draw, as well as two pairs in the doubles draw in the tournament. Senior Karolina Filipiak, junior Sona Novakova and freshmen Cristina Danaila and Aya Bara will each enter in singles play. Novakova is seeded No. 4 in the field, earning a first-round bye. Filipiak, Danaila and Bara will each begin in the first round of singles at 8 a.m. on Friday. The second round of singles will then take place at 11:30 a.m.
Doubles action will begin on Saturday, Oct. 23, with the first round at 9 a.m. and the second round beginning at 11 a.m. Each Baylor duo earned a first-round bye in the draw, with the team of Novakova and Nina Secerbegovic earning the No. 3 overall seed. Filipiak and Danaila will join forces as well, marking the first time each combination has been paired together.
The singles and doubles champions from the NCAA Division I USTA/ITA Regional Championships will advance to the 2010 USTA/ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships, taking place November 4-7, at the new indoor facilities at the USTA-Billie Jean King National Tennis Center, located in Flushing, New York. Columbia University will serve as the tournament host.
