Women's Tennis Signs Two to NLI

WACO, Texas - Head women's tennis coach Joey Scrivano announced the signing of Megan Horter and Nicole Kosakowski to National Letters of Intent for the 2011-12 academic year Wednesday.

"Both of these young ladies fit our culture and are very eager to improve," Scrivano said. "They are outstanding students, have tremendous work ethic, possess great character, and have a burning desire to develop into elite college players. Megan is a tenacious baseliner that simply makes you earn every point. Nicole is an explosive type of player that can play the power game."

Horter, a native of Southlake, Texas, will join Baylor as one of highest-rated recruits in the country. The Southlake Carroll product is a five-star recruit by TennisRecruiting.net, being rated the No. 31-ranked player nationally and No. 2-ranked player in Texas.

In 2010, Horter put together a fantastic season on the court, following a win at the ITF Grade 5 event in Waco, Texas, with a USTA Texas Excellence title over the No. 1-ranked player in Texas. A first team all-district singles and doubles player at Carroll, Horter also earned the Maureen Connolly Brinker Sportsmanship Award from the USTA. The award is given to a Super Championships Girl for outstanding sportsmanship and fair play both on and off the court, and is voted on by the players at the Texas Summer Grand Slam.

Also joining the Lady Bears for the 2010-11 academic year is Nicole Kosakowski, who hails from Downey, Calif. Kosakowski is a five-star recruit by TennisRecruiting.net, being rated the No. 53-ranked player nationally and No. 16-ranked player in the state of California.

Kosakowski, a Warren High School product, compiled an undefeated regular season record of 24-0 this fall on her way to the San Gabriel Valley singles title. The title earned her a spot in the upcoming CIS -SS Individual Championships. Kosakowski is also an accomplished doubles player, taking summer titles at the Lakewood National Open, as well as the Tracy Austin Doubles Tournament.

"This past year, both have worked incredibly hard to elevate their games, and we're very excited to have them join the Baylor tennis family," Scrivano said."It will be fun to see the progress and impact they will make during their time at Baylor."
