HOUSTON - Junior
Dani Leal hit a pair of home runs and collected four RBI to lead the No. 15 Baylor softball team (2-3) to a 4-0 win at Houston (1-3) on Sunday afternoon at the Marriott Houston Hobby Classic.
"I am proud of the way we played today," head coach Glenn Moore said. "It was nice to see us bounce back, and Dani showed a glimpse of her potential today."
Leal's two home runs marked the first time a player hit two home runs in a game since Brette Reagan hit a pair against Iowa State on May 9, 2008.
Whitney Canion (1-2) picked up her 11th career shutout, throwing 7.0 innings, allowing five hits, two walks and 11 strikeouts.
The Lady Bears took an early 1-0 lead on a Dani Leal solo shot to right center, the first hit and home run of her Baylor career.
Canion began to cruise, striking out the final batter of the third and then fanning the side in the fourth.
Leal struck again in the fifth with her second home run, a three run blast to left center. Tiffany Wesley led off with a single down the left field line and stole second to get into scoring position. Following a KJ Freeland walk, Leal took the count full and hit her second homer of the day.
Baylor will next be in action, hosting the QTI Invitational, beginning with Central Arkansas on Friday at 3:00 p.m.
