Tolleson allowed three runs on three hits in the first inning, but held the Blue Devils scoreless on two hits over the next five frames. The Baylor offense quickly answered with two runs in the bottom of the first.

True freshman Max Muncy hit a two-out single on the first pitch he saw, and Dan Evatt brought him home with a RBI double. After advancing to third on a wild pitch, Evatt scored when Duke starter Eric Pfisterer was called for a balk.

Both starters settled in and held the opposing offenses scoreless over the next two innings before the Bears plated the tying run in the bottom of the fourth. Evatt drew a leadoff walk, Cal Towey laid down a sacrifice bunt, and Gregg Glime delivered a RBI single.

Tolleson struck out the side in the fourth, then struck out two batters in each of the next two innings. He retired 13 of the last 15 batters he faced before turning the ball over to freshman lefty Josh Turley to start the seventh inning.

The Bears took the lead for good with a pair of runs in the fifth. True freshman Logan Vick led off with a single and came home on Joey Hainsfurther's RBI triple off the center-field wall. Another freshman, Max Muncy, brought Hainsfurther home with a sacrifice fly.

Turley worked a perfect top half of the seventh, and the Bears added four more runs of insurance in the bottom half. Towey and Raynor Campbell drew walks to start the inning, then Glime knocked a RBI single and Landis Ware later drove in a pair of runs with a single. Muncy capped the scoring by drawing a bases-loaded walk that gave Baylor a 9-3 lead.

Turley worked scoreless eighth and ninth innings to notch the save. He faced just one batter over the minimum and struck out two in 3.0 innings.

Batting leadoff in his first collegiate game, Vick went 2-for-3 with two walks and a run scored. Towey doubled in his only official at-bat, but also drew three walks and stole a base in his first game after redshirting last season.

Evatt, Glime and Ware all went 2-for-4. Evatt scored twice and drove in a run, Glime drove in two runs and scored once and Ware added two RBI.

Pfisterer took the loss after allowing five runs on five hits and four walks in 4.1 innings. Duke reliever Michael Seander allowed three runs on one hit and two walks in 0.1 inning. Jeremy Gould was the only Blue Devil to record multiple hits, going 2-for-2 with two walks, two RBI and a run scored. He also worked a scoreless inning on the mound.
