WACO, Texas - The No. 25 Baylor softball team (6-4 overall) used a one-hitter by freshman Courtney Repka to defeat UT Arlington (7-3 overall) 5-0, Sunday afternoon in the final day of the QTI Getterman Classic.
"This was a great way to finish the tournament," head coach Glenn Moore said. "We have a very important week ahead, so it's time to get focused and back to work."
Courtney Repka (5-2) allowed just one hit in 6.1 innings of work, walking two and striking out three. Repka now has two, one-hit performances on the season.
Kayce Walker, Kathy Shelton and Dani Leal each recorded two hits on the day, as Shelton also registered a pair of RBI.
Baylor got things going in the third, as Hanafin led off with a triple to right center, the first of her career. Kayce Walker followed with a single and stole second to get into scoring position. Shelton then stepped up and delivered a shot over the left fielder's head for her first career triple and a pair of RBI. Vannatta picked up her team-leading 11th RBI of the season on a sac fly to left, scoring Shelton for a 3-0 lead.
The Lady Bears cushioned their lead in the sixth, manufacturing a pair of runs. Following a Leal walk, Nicole Wesley singled to third and Sydney Wilson reached on an error that allowed Leal to score. A double steal forced a throw from the catcher that went to the outfield, allowing Wesley to reach home safely and give Baylor it's 5-0 lead.
Alicia Vasquez finished up the last 0.2 innings to polish off the victory.
The Lady Bears will host Houston on Tuesday beginning at 3:00 p.m. for a doubleheader at Getterman Stadium.
