MIAMI, Fla. - Already the holder of one Super Bowl ring, former Baylor defensive end Justin Snow (1996-99) was still shaking his head when he was asked at Tuesday's Media Day about playing for his second championship ring.
Now in his 10th season as the deep snapper with the Indianapolis Colts, Snow will make his 161st consecutive start - the second-longest streak in franchise history behind quarterback Peyton Manning - when Indianapolis plays the New Orleans Saints in Sunday's Super Bowl matchup.
"Growing up as a kid in Abilene, Texas, I was a huge Dallas Cowboys fan and I loved the Super Bowl," Snow said. "This is a dream come true for me to be a part of this great (Indianapolis Colts) organization."
As a defensive end at Baylor, Snow was the team's sixth-leading tackler as a senior in '99 and finished with 15 career tackles for loss and five sacks. But when he signed a free-agent contract with the Colts, he knew his defensive days were behind him.
During his rookie season in 2000, he snapped in a few games. But he took over full-time long-snapping duties in 2001 and has never looked back.
"If you had told me this in college, I would have never believed you," Snow said. "I give God all the credit for putting me in this position."
To this point, anyway, Snow's career highlight came on this same field at Sun Life Stadium (then Dolphins Stadium) in 2007, when he captured his first Super Bowl championship as the Colts defeated the Chicago Bears, 29-17, in a driving rain storm.
"What surprised me the most about my first Super Bowl was the rain," he said. "I had always heard about South Florida and how nice it was. And it poured rain the entire time, and I was standing on the field soaked.
"It was a lifelong dream come true to win a Super Bowl. I can't wait to do it again."
As the snapper for kicker Matt Stover and punter/holder Pat McAfee, Snow doesn't see his role with the Colts changing anytime soon.
"We have 25 guys who are back from the first Super Bowl, and we're still enjoying this," Snow said. "I hope I can do this for several more years. The long snapper in the NFL can last for a long time."
Long enough, hopefully, for Snow to pile up more Super Bowl memories and gain his second Super Bowl championship ring.
