Complete ITA Rankings
SKILLMAN, N.J. - After defeating two consecutive top-five opponents, Baylor's women's tennis team assumed the No. 1 spot in this week's Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings. The ranking marks the first time in program history that the Lady Bears have earned the top spot.
Last week, head coach Joey Scrivano's club beat No. 13 USC for the second time this season, then rolled across Los Angeles to beat No. 2 UCLA in the highest-ranked win in school history. Upon returning home, the Lady Bears avenged an early season loss to former No. 1 and now fourth-ranked North Carolina to improve their record to 11-2 on the season.
The Lady Bears are 9-2 against ranked teams, and 4-1 against the nation's top 10 with only a loss at No. 8 Michigan. The previous program-high ranking came during the 2008 season in which BU was ranked No. 2 for one week.
In the ITA's most recent singles rankings, also announced Tuesday, Lenka Broosova moved up to No. 5 from her eighth spot last week, while Nina Secerbegovic jumped from No. 41 to No. 18. Taylor Ormond, who earned the clinching point in each of the last two wins for Baylor, moved from No. 98 to no. 65. Csilla Borsanyi rounds out the Lady Bears in the rankings, checking in at No. 79. Borsanyi and Broosova also make up BU's only ranked doubles pair at No. 8.
The Lady Bears will resume Big 12 play this weekend, hosting Oklahoma State at 5 p.m. Friday, and Oklahoma at 1 p.m. on Sunday at the Baylor Tennis Center.
