Mikkelsen Concludes NIT Tied for Second

TUCSON, Ariz. - He entered the day tied for a one-shot lead, but Baylor men's golf sophomore Joakim Mikkelsen finished the National Invitational Tournament tied for second place overall Thursday at OMNI Tucson National.
Mikkelsen carded a final-round 2-over 74 to finish the tournament at 3-under (70-69-74=213) with Colorado State's Bryce Hanstad (74-68-71=213) - three strokes behind individual medalist, Dylan Frittelli (73-67-70=210) of Texas. Texas' Bobby Hudson finished fourth at 2-under, while seven golfers tied for fifth at 1-under.
22nd-ranked TCU won the tournament by a commanding 10 strokes, finishing at 12-under. Texas was second at 2-under, followed by SMU (1-over) in third, Arizona (3-over) in fourth and California (6-over) in fifth. Baylor, ranked 50th in the latest Golfstat standings, finished tied for eighth at 15-over (289-292-298=879).
Mikklesen posted his fifth sub-par 54-hole score this season. His 3-under 213 is his third-lowest 54-hole score in eight tournaments.
Lorenzo Scotto finished tied for 32nd at 5-over (76-72-73=221), while Payne Gniewek shot 7-over (75-73-75=223) to finish in 40th. Jerry Ruiz (72-78-76=226), Austin Berkovsky (72-79-76=227) and Ryan O'Rear (78-73-77=228) finished the NIT in 51st, 56th and 61st places, respectively.
The Baylor men's golf team returns to action April 5-6 at the Morris Williams Intercollegiate in Austin, Texas.
